A special bit of soul needed for walking

It's well known that special shoes for hiking are recommended, but I agree with writer Emme Woodhull-Bache who suggested a person needs a bit of a special soul as well.

Some people walk for their physical well-being, and I can't deny its importance. But autumn strolls in the crisp, brisk air are good for the soul.

It's hard to worry about stock markets or imagined slights or even illness or other concerns when one foot is moving confidently ahead of the other.

Our eyes fill with the last of the autumn leaves falling out of the greying sky; our noses with the scents of a season ending, and our ears with the crackling of leaves underfoot.

This week I walked through a Point Park neighbourhood in Riverview.

I took Point Park Drive off the Hillsborough Road, and continued along where it circled into Avondale.

To complete the trek, I went down Avondale to Hawthorne, where one can see out over the marshes.

It is a lovely neighbourhood and a grand place for an autumn stroll.

There are many other streets that you can circle around in the neighbourhood to extend your walk, and it's virtually impossible to get lost.

On one side, you are bordered by the Petitcodiac River, on the other, the Hillsborough Road.
