Todd joined the RCMP in 1986 and during his 22 years of service has worked in a variety of sections for the force.

"I've done urban policing in B.C., worked in a rural police setting, the drug section, and other sections as well," says Todd. Todd has been the Officer in Charge of the Codiac detachment for the past three years.

Todd explains that throughout the year he has the chance to keep the community up to date on the work being done with crime reduction in our communities.

However, as an exception during Police Week, he wanted to take this time to address an issue that does not always get as much media coverage.

"So often people just see the white cop cars and that is what they think the RCMP is. However, we go so much further than just the white patrol cars. The Codiac RCMP has a multitude of sections to better serve the area.

"We are a multi-disciplined office, and there is so much talent under this roof, which allows us to provide our community effectively with all the services they need.

"I want to thank the citizens in our community, as well as the community leaders for their tremendous support of our police force. That's what makes us the successful police force that we are, it is a collective effort through partnership.

"I want to recognize the Codiac regional policing authority for their involvement, the communications staff, our support staff, all of the officers in the various units, the volunteers, auxiliaries, the chaplin and everyone else involved for making Codiac such a great place to work."

Todd also explains that he looks forward to working with the new council to discuss and demonstrate the need for a new policing facility.

"The current RCMP building is 28 years old and we have outgrown the facilities. We have increased resources, additional services, and 145 officers alone, that doesn't include all the other staff."

His face lights up with an anxious smile when he discusses the forward-looking plan that the force is working on.

"We want to consult more with the community to ensure the police service meets expectations, set proper goals and objectives, better plan for resources, and be accountable to the community for the police service they are receiving."

A recent survey demonstrates that people see the Codiac region as a great place to raise their families and a safe place to live.

"We want to make a collective effort to assure that the men and women working in Codiac are committed to ensuring that this feeling of safety and security never diminishes. We are very fortunate to have the community working hand in hand with us.

"We look forward to enhancing our connections and relationships with partners to continue to make the Codiac RCMP the success that it is."
