Even if you're tightening your belt, you can find ways to help the less fortunate

Last fall, Monique Gough decided to make a difference in the lives of others by collecting warm clothes and blankets for the homeless of Greater Moncton. She started a group on facebook to help source more items, and hundreds of supporters joined the cause.

This year, Monique has passed the project on to Nadine Lipton with the YMCA'a Project ReConnect, and the challenge is out to the people of this city to make this winter a little easier for low-income and homeless citizens.

Unlike last year at this time, many of us are trimming our budgets and preparing for a leaner holiday season.

But that doesn't mean we can't help others who are less fortunate. the items collected by Blankets for Metro Moncton's Homeless actually help a myriad of people.

Outreach programs including YMCA Reconnect, Nazareth House, Crossroads for Women, Youth Quest, Moncton Youth Residences, MAGMA, Boutique Encore, SIDA/AIDS Moncton, Harvest House, St-Vincent de Paul, Mobile One, Karing Kitchen and Ray of Hope will benefit from any donations made this season.

Take the time this week to go through last year's winter clothes, or make a special effort to pick up some extra toiletries when you're doing your holiday shopping.

Donations can be dropped off at several locations in Moncton, including the YMCA, Abby's Home Cooking, Kandy Kafe, Lyle's Coast Gas, Damascus Coffee and Money's Worth.

For a complete list of items accepted, and more information about the program, visit the Blankets for Metro Moncton's Homeless website at www.BlanketsForMoncton.com or call Nadine at 961-0963.
