Now that the snow banks have finally disappeared, Riverview residents cannot help but notice a significant number of changes in the downtown business district. New businesses have popped up, others have changed locations, and just to keep everyone on their toes, some familiar faces have realigned with new names and new faces.

One of the new faces in Downtown Riverview is Damascus Coffee located at 710 Coverdale Road, next to Walton's Bakery. Owner Kevin Steen takes great pride in the wonderfully relaxing atmosphere the specialty shop offers to Riverview residents.

Homemade scones, specialty cupcakes and other scrumptious sweets are available daily to enjoy with your favourite coffee, espresso or smoothie. "The Damascus", a chocolate brownie with hazelnut filling topped with chocolate buttercream, made by Riverview's own Karen Silliker of The Cake Box is receiving rave reviews from new Damascus patrons. Damascus Coffee also offers a fully equipped conference room for small groups.

Another new face in Downtown Riverview is Wag & Wash Healthy Pet Centre located at 121 Pine Glen Road in the Pine Glen Mall. Wag & Wash offers Riverview's pet lovers a number of new services for their four-legged friends including self-serve pet wash facilities, nail clipping, and pet sitting. Wag & Wash is also a franchisee of Multi Menu pet foods, a premium, all natural Canadian-made pet food with 14 dog recipes and four cat recipes to choose from. Owner Kevin Case offers Wag & Wash clients free home delivery of pet food!

The Downtown Riverview Business Association is also very pleased to welcome Gair Maxwell and the Fundy Group to Riverview. The Fundy Group is located at 715 Coverdale Road. While welcoming new businesses, Downtown Riverview bids farewell to Allstate Insurance, who recently relocated to central offices at 1380 Mountain Road.

For the pizza lovers in town, there's good news on two fronts. Bravo Pizza recently relocated from 508 Coverdale Road to new and updated quarters in Coverdale Square (567 Coverdale Road). Bravo's new location includes a cozy and inviting seating area to better serve old and new customers. For those of you who are wondering about the recent disappearance of Vito's Pizza on Coverdale Road, Vito's owners are currently planning a replacement pizzeria to serve their Riverview customers at the same location in the near future.

Now, to the familiar faces in new places. Two local law firms, McAllister & Grew and Bateman & Hebert recently realigned their partnerships. The new law firms are Grew MacDonald Bateman located at 704 Coverdale Road and McAllister Sheehan Law located at 406 Coverdale Road.

And finally, a number of Riverview resident have been wondering about the timing of renovations to the old fire station. The much anticipated Fundy Gateway Project will house Olivier Soapery, a restaurant, Riverview's new tourism venue and other exciting commercial ventures.

According to Brenda Orchard, Riverview's Business and Economic Development Officer, work on the old Fire Station is slated to begin late June and the Fundy Gateway is scheduled to open this October.

Downtown Riverview is home to a wonderful mix of independent shops and businesses. Each contributes to the vitality, local flavour and economic health of our community. Shop locally and do your part to support Riverview's local merchants.
