A great old neighbourhood

There is something special about walking through an older neighbourhood. I was reminded of that this week when my neighbourhood walk took me alone Weldon Street, all the way from Main Street to Mountain Road.

Weldon Street in Moncton.

It's a street with a variety of business and residential life melded into something new and interesting. There are the simple pleasures of seeing well-designed old homes restored, and others finding new reasons for being as offices and storefronts. There are varied housing choices, from single detached to duplexes to apartments.

Weldon Street is a walk full of character, where modern ways blend with the old, always with the theme of renewal peaking through. It's an intensively walkable streetscape, a sense of heart of what the city is all about.

Weldon also passes along the beautiful Victoria Park

between St. George and John streets, and on the other side, the vibrant Edith Cavell School, teeming with life and energy. It is one of those great streets that inspires the imagination. One wonders what life was once like, and what it will evolve to.

On this walk, I left my car in the parking lot of Highfield Square, and returned there for some much-needed refreshment at the end. It is a great exercise not only for the body but also for the mind to walk this street and pick up on all its images.
